Concert Notes
The intertwined relationships among dance, music, and celebrations have been a part of many cultures for thousands of years. This season we bring together festive Christmas favorites that celebrate these connections. Below is a paragraph written by our artistic director that describes the musical selections for our winter concert series. We hope that you will be able to join us in celebrating the music of the season!

We open with four English carols. The title selection of this year’s program, “Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day,” has a hidden surprise: the beautiful "Coventry Carol" will be played on our five and a half octave set of Choirchimes. Also listen for the unique timbre of the Petit and Fritsen handbells, which emulate the sound of tower bells pealing in celebration. From England we travel with Back Bay Carillon to France. “Noel Francais” blends the French carols including “Pat-a-Pan,” “Bring a Torch Jeanette Isabella,” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.” The melody of the carol “Ding Dong Merrily on High” originally appeared in a collection of sixteenth-century secular dance tunes. Continuing South, we move from France into Spain for two energetic dance-like pieces. “Riu, Riu, Chiu” and “Fum, Fum, Fum.” We close the concert with stops in two more diverse cultures. Watch the bells dance through the quick runs of the beloved “Ukrainian Bell Carol.” Finally, we sail across the pond to dance along with the infectious rhythms of the “West Indies Carol.” We hope that our music warms your heart and leaves your spirit dancing through the holiday season.
